EPS is increasingly used in beekeeping across the Nordic region, where its insulation properties outperform wood in controlling internal hive temperature. A stable thermal environment reduces colony stress, lowers energy expenditure, and supports brood health — particularly in harsh climates with long cold periods or fluctuating spring temperatures.

Beekeepers in Finland, Norway, and Sweden use EPS hives for their low weight, mold resistance, and reduced colony loss. Compared to traditional materials, EPS enables more consistent overwintering and more stable internal humidity — contributing to productivity in both pollination and honey production.

In recreational, agricultural, and modular systems, EPS supports lightweight construction and form-fitted solutions. It appears in paddleboards, field coolers, transport inserts, and temporary shelters — not as a visible feature, but as a structural enabler. Its ability to be precision-moulded, its thermal consistency, and its resilience over time make it valuable in designs where durability must be paired with material efficiency.
